Black Stars: Otto Addo Calls for Better Defending of Set Pieces
Ghana coach Otto Addo has expressed frustration after his side’s latest defeat to Niger, pointing to the set-piece goals conceded.
The Black Stars of Ghana lost 2-1 to Niger in the final round of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers at the Accra sports stadium. The two goals conceded by Ghana were all from corner kicks.
According to Otto Addo, the team was aware of the ability of Niger to score from set pieces.
“We started okay but conceded a goal from a set piece. We were aware because the last time we met, they scored from a corner. Surely, we have to defend these set pieces better,” Addo said, highlighting a recurring issue in his team’s defensive setup.
The defeat, which left Addo disappointed, added to the team’s recent struggles, and he couldn’t hide his frustration. “It seems everything is going against us,” he added, reflecting on the challenges the team has faced throughout the qualifiers.
