Black Stars Final World Cup Squad Set for June 1, Confirms GFA
The Ghana Football Association has confirmed the timeline for the announcement of the Black Stars squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with head coach Otto Addo expected to unveil his final selection on June 1.
GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum disclosed the details while speaking on Asempa FM, explaining that FIFA has issued clear directives to all qualified nations regarding squad submissions.
According to him, the process will begin with the release of provisional lists before final confirmations are made.
“All qualified teams, including the Black Stars of Ghana, are mandated by FIFA to announce their provisional squad on April 11, 2026. The final squads for the tournament must be announced before midnight on June 1, 2026,” Asante Twum stated.
Ghana have been drawn into a challenging Group I, where they will face Panama, England and Croatia at the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Asante Twum also assured players and fans that squad selection will be based strictly on merit, noting that the technical team continues to track the performances of Ghanaian players across the globe.
“Every Ghanaian player with a strong performance is closely monitored by the technical team, and regardless of where they play, they will be given a call-up,” he added.
The Black Stars will open their World Cup campaign on June 17 with a clash against Panama in Toronto, before heading to Boston to face England on June 23, as they seek a strong start to their quest on the world stage.
