Black Satellites Play Out 2-2 Draw With Kenya in U-20 AFCON Warm-Up
Ghana’s U-20 national team, the Black Satellites, were held to an entertaining 2-2 draw by Kenya in an international friendly match on Wednesday evening in Cairo, as both sides stepped up preparations for the upcoming 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The match offered Coach Desmond Ofei a critical look at his team’s readiness ahead of a tough Group C campaign at the tournament, which kicks off in Egypt later this month.
Dreams FC forward Abdul Aziz Musibau was the star for Ghana in the first half, netting a brilliant brace that showcased his composure and lethal finishing.
His goals gave Ghana a comfortable cushion early on, but the East Africans were not to be outdone.
Kenya responded with impressive resilience, as Hassan Beja and Lawrence Ouma struck before halftime to bring the score level.
The second half saw both sides push for a winner, but a combination of resolute defending and missed chances ensured the game ended in a stalemate.
Ghana will begin their U-20 AFCON campaign on May 2 against DR Congo before taking on reigning champions Senegal and the Central African Republic in what is considered one of the tournament’s most competitive groups.
With four U-20 AFCON titles and a FIFA U-20 World Cup win in 2009, the Black Satellites remain one of Africa’s most decorated youth teams and are keen to add to that legacy in Egypt.
