Asante Kotoko stretched their unbeaten run to eight matches and retained top spot in the Ghana Premier League with a 1-1 draw against Heart of Lions at the Kpando Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Porcupine Warriors took the lead on the brink of halftime through experienced midfielder Justice Blay, who produced a sublime finish in stoppage time to cap off a well-worked move. His strike sent Kotoko into the break with a deserved lead and silenced the home crowd.

However, Heart of Lions came out firing in the second half and found an equaliser just two minutes after the restart.

Fawzi Ali latched onto a loose ball in the box and slotted it past the Kotoko goalkeeper to restore parity for the home side.

What followed was an open and entertaining half, with both teams creating several chances. The intensity increased as the match wore on, but neither side could deliver a decisive blow, and the game ended in a share of the spoils.

While the result brought an end to Kotoko’s two-game winning run, they will view the draw as a valuable point away from home. With Bibiani Gold Stars suffering a defeat to Dreams FC, Kotoko’s cushion at the summit of the table has now increased to two points.

Heart of Lions, who entered the match just five points behind the leaders, remain in third place. Their spirited comeback and overall performance highlighted their credentials as top-four contenders.
