Arne Slot Condemns Racial Abuse of Antoine Semenyo in Liverpool’s EPL Opener
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has strongly condemned the racial abuse directed at Ghana striker Antoine Semenyo during the opening fixture of the 2025/26 English Premier League on Friday night.
The incident occurred at Anfield, where Semenyo reported the abuse to the referee, prompting a brief stoppage as the technical teams of both sides were consulted. Play later resumed, with Liverpool eventually sealing a 4-2 victory.
Addressing the media after the game, Slot described the episode as completely unacceptable.
“It’s unacceptable in every football stadium, let alone at Anfield…big credits to him if something happens like this and you can perform so well in the second half,” Slot said.
Despite the ordeal, Semenyo responded in remarkable fashion, netting a second-half brace to mark a bright start to his campaign. The 25-year-old forward’s resilience and performance drew widespread praise, even as calls intensified for stronger action against racism in football.
