Accra Lions head coach Rainer Kraft has extended a heartfelt apology to the club’s supporters following their relegation from the Ghana Premier League, sealed by a crushing 4-0 defeat to champions Bibiani GoldStars on the final day of the 2024/25 season.

The Lions, who were runners-up just a season ago, endured a dramatic slump in form that culminated in their fall to 15th on the league table—bringing their four-year stay in the top flight to a disappointing end.

The defeat at the packed Dun’s Park in Bibiani saw the Miners assert their dominance with goals from Abdul Farouk Amoaful, Kelvin Oppong, Samuel Atta Kumi, and Frank Amankwah—results that not only secured GoldStars’ first-ever league title but also confirmed Accra Lions’ demotion.

Speaking in his post-match interview, Coach Rainer Kraft acknowledged the pain of the loss and the heartbreak of relegation, but remained composed and grateful to the club’s fans.

“So it’s a little bit disappointing, of course. But it doesn’t harm, in the end, what we are doing. And one last thing I want to say: I want to thank all the fans we have in Accra and beyond for always supporting us,” Kraft stated. So really, in such a good manner — thank you very much, fans. And I’m sorry for that relegation.”

Despite the setback, Kraft hinted at a long-term vision that goes beyond short-term success, insisting that the team will learn and grow from the experience.

Accra Lions now join Legon Cities and Nsoatreman FC as the three teams relegated from the top tier at the conclusion of the 2024/25 campaign. The club will now look to regroup in Division One with hopes of a swift return to elite competition.
