Ghana international, Jonathan Mensah has expressed surprised upon chancing on a viral clean goal scored in the BetPawa Premier League between Asante Kotoko SC and Heart of Lions at the Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium but was disallowed.
Premier League returnees, Kpando Heart of Lions travelled to Kumasi to face former Ghana Premier League champions Asante Kotoko SC in the 2023-24 BetPawa Premier League opener and nearly shocked them. However, a 64th minute goal scored by Mustapha Yakubu was disallowed by assistant line one referee Gilbert Adom Menaah.
And with a legitimate goal being disallowed, the encounter ended in a goalless draw.
The US-based Ghana defender, Jonathan Mensah described the decision by the referee as “deliberate”.
“This was deliberate,” wrote Mensah in an early post before later adding it was a bad call.
Asante Kotoko will next travel to Bibiani to face Goldstars in week 2 game while Heart of Lions host Great Olympics in Kpando.
