Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has thrown down a challenge to Inaki Williams, urging the Athletic Bilbao forward to strengthen his understanding with his Ghanaian teammates as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Williams has endured a mixed spell with the national team since switching allegiance from Spain in 2022, netting only two goals in 25 appearances.

The 30-year-old missed Ghana’s last two qualifiers against Comoros and the Central African Republic due to injury but is expected to be fit ahead of next year’s global tournament.

Addo stressed the importance of better on-field chemistry between Williams and the rest of the squad, noting that collective improvement will bring the best out of the striker.

“We have to find a better connection with him, and he has to adapt better with the squad,” Addo told Joy Sports.

The Ghana coach also admitted that he shares part of the responsibility for ensuring the forward’s success, emphasizing the need to identify a tactical role that maximizes Williams’ impact.

“I also have to find the best position for him. If we all work on that, we’ll benefit because he has the quality,” he added.

Since making his Ghana debut in the build-up to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Williams has remained a regular feature in the team, contributing with his pace, pressing, and work ethic — even as goals have been hard to come by.

Addo remains confident that with the right adjustments, the Spanish-born striker can rediscover his best form and play a pivotal role in Ghana’s World Cup campaign across Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
