The Minority Caucus in Ghana’s Parliament, led by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has extended a generous financial gesture to the Black Queens, Ghana’s senior women’s national football team, in recognition of their outstanding performance at the 2025 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

The Black Queens secured a third-place finish, claiming the bronze medal at the continental tournament — their best result since 2016. The achievement has been hailed across the country, with Parliament becoming the latest institution to honour the team’s efforts.

Addressing the House, Minority Leader Afenyo-Markin celebrated the team’s resilience and announced a GHS 100,000 donation to support the players.

“We are humble but proud to say that we [the Minority in Parliament] are the first to publicly acknowledge the industry of the Black Queens by donating 100,000 Ghana Cedis [$9,514 at the time of writing] to the Black Queens,” Afenyo-Markin stated.

The donation underscores growing support for women’s football in Ghana, with hopes that the gesture will inspire further investment and development in the women’s game.

The GFA President, Kurt Okraku, and Vice President, Mark Addo, were also present during the session, as appreciation continues to pour in for the Queens’ continental exploits.
