Head coach of Medeama SC, Ibrahim Tanko, has commended his players for their fighting spirit despite suffering a narrow 3-2 defeat to Asante Kotoko in their Ghana Premier League Matchday 33 encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The Yellow and Mauve took the lead early in the game and created several clear-cut chances but ultimately could not hold off a spirited comeback from the Porcupine Warriors, who rallied to snatch all three points.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Coach Tanko expressed satisfaction with his team’s display, insisting they could have sealed the win with better finishing in the first half.

“I think I’m very proud of my boys,” Tanko said. “When you look at how we started, we created a lot of chances after the first goal. We should have been going up two or three goals.”

However, the former Ghana international was reluctant to delve into the refereeing decisions that appeared to influence the match, especially in the lead-up to Kotoko’s crucial penalty.

“I don’t want to talk about it. I mean, the situations that change the game, I don’t want to talk about it,” he said when asked about the officiating.

Pressed further on the impact of the referee’s calls, Tanko maintained his stance but acknowledged his frustration.

“I don’t want to talk about referees. I mean, it’s frustrating. Look at the foul we had before they went and got this penalty. The referees took a decision, and we have to accept it.”

Despite the loss, Medeama remain focused on finishing the season on a high. They will wrap up their campaign with a fixture against Berekum Chelsea, aiming to bounce back and end the season on a positive note.
