Head coach of Nations FC, Kassim Mingle, has revealed that a deliberate tactical approach was key to his side’s 1-0 victory over Accra Lions in their Ghana Premier League Matchday 30 encounter on Sunday.

The win, secured at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, was sealed by a 63rd-minute strike from Sadiq Alhassan. The result propelled Nations FC to the summit of the league table with 54 points, keeping their title hopes alive in the final stretch of the season.

Following the game, Mingle disclosed that his team’s strategy was to disrupt Accra Lions’ traditional style of play, forcing them into unfamiliar territory.

“They keep the ball. We forced them to kick the ball long, and that style of play, they are not used to it, so our defenders were comfortable with it, so they couldn’t play the way they’ve been playing against other teams,” he explained.

The coach added that their awareness of Lions’ fast attackers helped his team prepare effectively to neutralize any threats.

“We forced them to be kicking the long balls because they have speedsters up front, and our defenders have the speed, so they were able to contain them,” Mingle said.

The win marks Nations FC’s second consecutive clean sheet and further strengthens their bid for a top-two finish, which would guarantee a CAF inter-club competition slot.

They will next host Legon Cities, who are fighting to escape relegation, in Matchday 31 at the Accra Sports Stadium. Mingle will hope his side can maintain the momentum as the season nears its conclusion.
