Karim Zito Targets FA Cup Clash as Turning Point for Kotoko’s Season

Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito says the MTN FA Cup presents the ideal moment for his side to reset and recover from their difficult stretch in the Ghana Premier League.

Kotoko are winless in their last four league outings, a period that has yielded just two points. The Porcupine Warriors have scored three goals and conceded five during the run, causing their title pursuit to stall. They currently sit fifth on the table, five points adrift of leaders Medeama SC.

Zito acknowledges the club’s recent struggles but insists the FA Cup Round of 64 fixture against Future Stars FC offers the perfect platform to spark a turnaround.

“So with the FA you only have one chance to play before the next chance; unlike the league, it is a marathon — you can drop below and then climb up, or you are in the middle then come and be first,” he told Asante Kotoko TV.

He added that the team is determined to use Wednesday’s game as a statement of intent.

“The end justifies the means so I think this is a bigger opportunity for us to make amendments for people, for us to prove that maybe it’s a moment we have entered — not that we can’t play football. We can improve upon it and make amendments. So we start by fighting very hard to eliminate in the future. I know it will be difficult but not above Asante Kotoko.”

Kotoko will face Future Stars FC on Wednesday, December 10, at Okese Park, with kickoff scheduled for 3 p.m.
