Head coach of Asante Kotoko, Abdul Karim Zito, has underlined the importance of winning this weekend’s MTN FA Cup final, stressing that anything less than victory would be a major embarrassment for the club.

The Porcupine Warriors, a storied giant in Ghanaian and African football, are set to face lower-tier side Golden Kick in the final on Sunday, June 15, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. The match will not only determine the 2024/25 FA Cup champion but also who secures a place in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round.

Ahead of the highly anticipated showdown, Coach Zito expressed the high stakes involved and the expectations placed on a club of Kotoko’s stature.

“It will be very pathetic; people will not understand [and that is football] if a bigger club loses to a smaller club,” Zito told AKSC Media. “So, as I said from the beginning, I can’t come out and tell you exactly what I will do, but I know what to do depending on what I want.”

Golden Kick, the underdogs in the final, have defied the odds throughout the tournament and are eyeing a historic upset. But Kotoko, with their pedigree and experience, are determined to ensure that the FA Cup trophy returns to Kumasi.

Kick-off for the final is set for 5:00 PM on Sunday.
