Head coach of Kpando Heart of Lions, Bashiru Hayford, has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to compete against Ghanaian football giants Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, insisting that his respect for the two clubs is rooted in their history rather than their current squads.

The experienced tactician, known for his tactical discipline and motivational approach, believes that modern Ghanaian football has become more balanced, with several clubs now capable of challenging the traditional powerhouses.

Speaking ahead of Lions’ upcoming Ghana Premier League fixtures, Hayford acknowledged the iconic status of Kotoko and Hearts but emphasized that his team is not intimidated by their present crop of players.

“I can only be scared of Kotoko and Hearts of Oak for their legacy, not their players,” Hayford told Asempa FM.

Under Hayford’s guidance, Heart of Lions have made an encouraging start to the 2025/26 Premier League season, showcasing resilience and organization on the pitch.

He maintained that his team’s focus remains on consistent performance and collective improvement rather than being overwhelmed by big names.
