Accra Hearts of Oak climbed to the top of the Ghana Premier League table on Friday evening after grinding out a 1-0 win against Eleven Wonders at the Accra Sports Stadium.

A well-taken first-half strike from Enoch Asubonteng proved enough for the Phobians, who extended their flawless defensive record to three clean sheets in as many matches this season.

Head coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani made a few adjustments to his lineup following last weekend’s triumph over Dreams FC. David Oppong Afrane and George Paaku were drafted into the starting XI, with Kelvin Osei Asibey and Hussein Mohammed missing out.

Hearts began the match on the front foot, forcing several early saves from Wonders’ goalkeeper Kwame Baah. Their persistence paid off in the 18th minute when Asubonteng reacted quickest to a loose ball in the box, guiding it home for what turned out to be the winner.

The hosts suffered a setback soon after as Ali Mohammed was stretchered off and replaced by Baba Adamu. Despite the disruption, Hearts held their composure while Eleven Wonders gradually grew into the game, enjoying longer spells of possession without seriously testing the opposition goalkeeper.

The second half saw Hearts search for a cushion goal, but Wonders’ defense held firm. The away side nearly found a breakthrough of their own in the 86th minute, only to see a strong penalty appeal waved away after Asamoah appeared to be brought down by Baba Adamu.

Eleven Wonders continue to search for their first points of the campaign.

Hearts will next travel to Bechem United, while Wonders return home to face Young Apostles in a bid to revive their fortunes.
