Ghanaian football powerhouse Hearts of Oak has extended its congratulations to club captain Benjamin Asare, who has earned his first-ever call-up to the Black Stars for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.

Asare’s inclusion in Otto Addo’s 23-man squad, announced on Friday morning, comes as a reward for his outstanding performances in the ongoing Ghana Premier League season.

The 32-year-old goalkeeper has been instrumental in Hearts of Oak’s impressive campaign, helping them secure third place in the league standings. He has featured in 18 matches, conceding only seven goals and keeping 12 clean sheets—a testament to his reliability between the posts.

The Phobians took to social media to celebrate their captain’s national team call-up.

“From hard work to history! Congratulations to our number one goalie Benjamin Asare on his call-up to the national team. Well-deserved. We wish him all the best,” the club posted on X .

Asare will now compete with Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Joseph Wollacott for a place in the starting lineup. He joins Nations FC’s Razak Simpson and Medeama’s Kamaradini Mamudu as the only locally-based players in the squad.

Ghana will first host Chad on March 21 at the Accra Sports Stadium, before traveling to Morocco to face Madagascar on March 24, 2025.

The Black Stars are currently second in Group I with nine points, tied with group leaders Comoros. With these must-win fixtures ahead, Ghana will be aiming to secure maximum points to strengthen their World Cup qualification hopes.
