GPL: Hearts of Oak records victory over Medeama SC
The phobians gives Medeama their first defeat at home
Ghana Premier League giants, Accra Hearts of Oak were 2-0 victors over Medeama Sporting Club in Tarkwa in match week 9 of the Ghana Premier League.
Two second half goals from Kwabena Boateng and Mawuli Wayo ensured that Accra Hearts of Oak recorded their third victory of the season while Medeama lost their first game at home this season and conceded for the first time at home.
Both teams made early incursions in the first department of the game but both failed to score.
Medeama Sporting Club started the second half on a high note. In the 56th minute, Medeama midfielder Kofi Babil shot a long ball from 20 yards out but it lacked the direction to beat goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.
Two minutes later, Hearts of Oak defender Kevin Osei Assibey made a timely tackle in the penalty box as Medeama left back, Fatawu Suleman was poised to score.
The momentum in the game shifted to Hearts of Oak as they broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute through Kwabena Boateng after a defensive error. Midfielder, Hussein placed a beautiful pass to Hamza who made a run with the ball. He shot beyond the reach of Kubi and Boateng tapped it in for the first goal.
Medeama kept knocking on the door of Hearts of Oak for an equaliser but Kevin Osei Assibey made a timely clearance on the line in the 74th minute.
Hearts of Oak cemented their win in the 87th minute kind courtesy a header by substitute Mawuli Wayo.
Accra Hearts of Oak now have 12 points after nine games while Medeama has 15 points.
