GFA Referees Manager Confirms VAR Won’t Be Implemented at All Venues
The Referees Manager for the Ghana Football Association( GFA), Alex Kotey has revealed the Video Assistant Referee technology will not be used at all game venues in the Ghana Premier League.
The GFA earlier announced this week that the VAR technology will be implemented in Ghana’s league when discussions with a delegation from FIFA is done.
The FIFA delegation includes VAR specialists Inokuchi Takaaki and Michael Bailey, who have a wealth of knowledge in the use of the technology.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Alex Kotey says the technology will be used only at venues where matches are broadcasted live on TV.
“We agree that we can’t use VAR at all the league venues. It will be used for league matches that are broadcast live on television,” Kotey told Asempa FM. If you watched the previous Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, the VAR decisions were on point. That’s what we want to emulate.” He said.
There have been mixed responses from Ghanaians, with many discussing if VAR is currently a needed addition to the local league.
