Ex-Kotoko Board Member Urges Mahama to Prioritize Competence in Sports Minister Appointment
Former Asante Kotoko Board Member, Alhaji Abu Lamine, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to appoint a Minister of Youth and Sports who possesses a deep understanding of sports rather than basing the selection on political loyalty.
President Mahama is yet to announce his ministerial appointments, sparking speculation over who might take the helm of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Alhaji Lamine underscored the critical role sports plays in bringing joy to Ghanaians and stressed the need for competence in the ministry’s leadership.
“Sports is what gives us happiness. We beg the government to appoint someone who understands the game and can initiate sound policies,” he said.
He further advised against appointing individuals solely based on their political affiliation with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), urging the president to focus on expertise and experience in sports.
“It should be someone with sports knowledge that is given the nod as the sports minister,” Lamine added.
