Head coach of Ghana’s U-20 national team, Desmond Ofei, has heaped praise on his players following their impressive 1-0 victory over Senegal in the second Group C match of the 2025 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Egypt.

The Black Satellites showed tactical discipline and resilience to edge past the defending champions in a tightly contested encounter on Monday night. The result leaves Ghana in a strong position to qualify for the next round of the competition.

Speaking after the game, Coach Desmond Ofei expressed his satisfaction with the team’s commitment and execution of the tactical plan.

“The boys followed the game plan, stayed organised, and gave everything on the pitch. That’s all you can ask for as a coach,” he said, as quoted by the Ghana Football Association.

The win marked Ghana’s second group stage game after an earlier draw with DR Congo, and keeps them in contention for a top-two finish in a group that also includes the Central African Republic.

Coach Ofei emphasized that the team’s ultimate objective remains qualification for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

“Our main goal is to qualify for the World Cup. That’s the focus. Each match and positive result takes us a step closer,” he added.

The Black Satellites will now turn their attention to their final Group C fixture against the Central African Republic, scheduled for May 8, where a win could confirm their place in the knockout rounds and move them closer to a return to the global stage.
