Chelsea and Newcastle United Pay Heartfelt Tribute to Christian Atsu on Second Anniversary of His Passing

English Premier League clubs Chelsea and Newcastle United have paid moving tributes to former Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu, marking the second anniversary of his tragic death.

Atsu, a former Ghana international, lost his life during the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey on February 6, 2023. His body was discovered nearly two weeks after the disaster, trapped beneath the rubble. Following his recovery, he was brought back to Ghana for a befitting burial.

Chelsea, where Atsu spent four years, honored his memory with a heartfelt message: “Two years ago today, we tragically lost Christian Atsu. Our thoughts continue to remain with Christian’s family and friends.”

Newcastle United, where Atsu became a fan favorite after joining in 2017, also shared their tribute: “Two years ago, we sadly lost Christian Atsu in the most tragic of circumstances. Our thoughts are forever with his family and friends. Rest in paradise, Christian.”

 

Atsu’s legacy continues to live on, not only for his performances on the pitch but also for his kindness and dedication off it. His memory remains deeply cherished by fans, teammates, and the football community.
