Former Black Stars head coach, Charles Kwablan Akonnor, has been unveiled as the new head coach of Kenyan football giants, Gor Mahia FC.

The 52-year-old tactician has signed a two-year contract with the record FKF Premier League champions, marking his first coaching assignment outside Ghana. Akonnor is expected to steer the club through its rebuilding phase and lead their campaign in upcoming CAF inter-club competitions.

He will be supported by a Ghanaian technical team, with Bismark Kobby-Mensah appointed as his assistant coach, and Ben Owu named as the goalkeeper’s trainer.

“We are delighted to announce the appointment of Charles Akonnor from Ghana as our new Head Coach. The former Black Stars manager brings a wealth of experience as a seasoned tactician. Welcome to Mahia, Coach Akonnor,” the club announced via its official social media channels.

Gor Mahia believes Akonnor’s international exposure and coaching pedigree will help rejuvenate the club and push it to new heights both domestically and across the continent.

Now at Gor Mahia, Akonnor takes on the challenge of reviving one of East Africa’s most storied clubs as they look to regain dominance and make an impact in continental competitions.
