Black Satellites goalkeeper Gidios Aseako has underlined the team’s ambition to finish top of Group C at the ongoing TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, as Ghana prepares to face the Central African Republic in their final group match.

Ghana currently sits second in the group after edging Senegal 1-0 in their second game. With DR Congo leading the standings and scheduled to play Senegal simultaneously, a win for the Satellites on Thursday could see them leapfrog the Congolese side and clinch the top spot—depending on goal difference.

“The experience in Egypt has been good,” said Aseako, who plies his trade with Ghana Premier League side Dreams FC.

“We have to win and top the group. The mentality of the team is strong, and we are determined to win tomorrow and go all the way,” he told reporters ahead of the match.

The Black Satellites opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw against DR Congo before bouncing back with the crucial win over Senegal. The final group game now represents a decisive moment in their quest to qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile later this year.

Ghana, four-time winners of the U-20 AFCON (1993, 1999, 2009, and 2021), must finish among the top four to secure a spot at the global tournament.

Kick-off for the doubleheader matches is scheduled for Thursday afternoon. (15:00 GMT)
