Ghana’s U15 girls’ national side, the Black Damsels, are set to embark on a fresh continental challenge as they prepare to defend their crown at the CAF African Schools Football Championship finals in Mozambique.

The youth tournament is scheduled to run from April 2 to April 10, 2026, in Maputo and is expected to bring together the best school teams from across the continent in a showcase of Africa’s emerging football talent. Since its launch, the competition has grown into a key platform for talent identification and grassroots development in African football.

Ghana head into the tournament with confidence after winning the previous edition, a success that underlined the country’s growing influence in women’s youth football and its structured approach to nurturing young players. The Black Damsels’ title win also marked a significant step in Ghana’s efforts to strengthen female football development pathways.

The squad has been assembled through a joint initiative between the Ghana Football Association and the Ghana Education Service, with preparations focused on technical improvement, tactical discipline and mental readiness. However, the defending champions are expected to face stiff competition, with several nations eager to end Ghana’s reign at the schools’ level.

Driven by ambition and national pride, the Black Damsels will be aiming to reaffirm their status as Africa’s leading schools’ football side when the tournament kicks off in Maputo.
