Ghana international Inaki Williams has expressed pride and gratitude after being named La Liga’s African Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the second consecutive season, calling the achievement a reflection of his hard work and consistency.

The Athletic Bilbao forward claimed the 2024/25 edition of the prestigious award following another impressive campaign, in which he contributed a combined 14 goals and assists to help his club secure a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Williams made history by becoming the first player to win the La Liga African MVP award in back-to-back seasons. He secured 32 percent of the vote, which was cast by a panel of expert journalists and fans from across the African continent.

“La Liga has always had African players or players with African heritage, and it’s a real honour to be able to represent our roots in this way, to make us seen in a league that’s so special and has always had such a huge following,” Williams said.

The Ghanaian forward highlighted the significance of the award not only for his personal journey but also for young aspiring players across Africa.

“It’s a beautiful thing for young people across Africa, a continent where football has always been a big part of life, to be able to see their role models succeed,” he remarked.

“An award like this always means you’re doing things right. I’m so happy and proud that I’ve won it two years in a row… hopefully, I can make it three!”

Williams, 30, has been a key figure for both club and country, and his recognition by LaLiga further solidifies his status as one of the continent’s most influential footballers. Beyond his performances on the pitch, his visibility and leadership continue to inspire fans and players alike across Africa.
