Black Queens forward Sherifa Sumaila has voiced her strong backing for head coach Kim Lars Björkegren as Ghana prepares for a decisive 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) semifinal clash against tournament hosts Morocco.

After enduring a slow start to the competition, the Black Queens have gathered momentum at the right time and now find themselves on the brink of a historic return to the final — a feat last achieved in 2006.

Their opponents, Morocco, pose a formidable challenge. The North African side finished as runners-up in the previous edition and will enjoy the advantage of playing in front of a passionate home crowd in Rabat.

Speaking ahead of the high-stakes encounter, Sumaila emphasized the team’s belief in the tactical direction provided by Coach Björkegren, while also highlighting the importance of leadership on the pitch.

“We trust our coach, and all we need to do is follow the game plan,” she said. “We’re also doing our best to motivate and guide the younger players with the experience we’ve gathered.”

The crucial semifinal fixture is set to take place at the Stade Olympique de Rabat on Tuesday, July 22, with a coveted spot in the WAFCON 2024 final on the line.

As anticipation builds, the Black Queens remain focused on delivering a performance worthy of their resurgence, with eyes firmly fixed on continental glory.
