Mali head coach Tom Saintfiet has expressed confidence in Ghana’s enduring status as one of the powerhouses of African football, despite the Black Stars missing out on the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana’s absence from the continental tournament sparked concerns among fans about the decline of the Black Stars. However, Saintfiet believes such situations are temporary and insists that the country remains a force to reckon with on the continent.

Speaking in an interview with Kobby Stonne on Adom TV’s Fire for Fire, the Belgian tactician noted that setbacks are part of the game and do not diminish the pedigree of a nation with Ghana’s rich football history.

“I still believe Ghana is a giant in African football. It is not because you missed out of the AFCON that you are not a big nation. It happens sometimes,” Saintfiet stated.

The Black Stars, four-time AFCON champions, are currently undergoing a rebuilding phase under coach Otto Addo, with sights set on qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
