Kudus, Issahaku and Thomas-Asante Lead Weekend Highlights as Ghanaian Players Shine Across Europe
Ghanaian footballers across Europe and beyond were once again in the spotlight over the weekend, delivering crucial goals, assists, and resilient performances for their respective clubs. From England to Spain, and from Austria to Turkey, the Black Stars contingent and other Ghanaian professionals left their mark on matchday.
In England, Mohammed Kudus was the standout performer as Tottenham secured an impressive 2-0 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. Kudus dazzled with his skill, creativity, and tireless energy in midfield, earning yet another standing ovation from the Spurs faithful who have quickly embraced him as a fan favourite.
At the Vitality Stadium, Antoine Semenyo provided the decisive assist in Bournemouth’s narrow 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, taking his tally to three goal contributions in just two matches this season. Jordan Ayew, meanwhile, featured the full ninety minutes for Leicester City, while his international teammate Abdul Fatawu Issahaku scored a sensational strike to secure all three points for the Foxes in their Championship fixture against Charlton.

Brandon Thomas-Asante also got off the mark for the season, netting in Coventry City’s emphatic 7-1 demolition of Queens Park Rangers, while Jeffrey Schlupp came on as a substitute for Norwich City in their 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough.
Elsewhere in Europe, Thomas Partey enjoyed a commanding midfield display in La Liga as Villarreal thumped Girona 5-0, while Kwesi Sibo was in action for Real Oviedo in their 3-0 defeat to Real Madrid.
In Italy’s Serie A, Kamaldeen Sulemana played a part in Atalanta’s 1-1 draw with Pisa, showing glimpses of his trademark pace and direct play. France also saw several Ghanaians in action over the weekend. Gideon Mensah, Elisha Owusu, and Ibrahim Osman all started for Auxerre but could not prevent a 3-1 defeat against OGC Nice, where compatriots Kwame Peprah and Abdul Samed Salis also featured.
Koffi Kouao was on duty for Metz in their 3-0 loss to Lyon, while Ebenezer Annan and Augustine Boakye played key roles in St. Etienne’s slim 1-0 victory over Boulogne in Ligue 2.
The Bundesliga II also witnessed strong Ghanaian representation. Christopher Antwi-Adjei lasted 71 minutes for Schalke 04 in their 2-1 triumph over Bochum, and Patrick Pfeiffer played the full match for Darmstadt in a draw against Hertha Berlin.
In Austria, Edmund Biadoo was on the scoresheet for Salzburg as they cruised to a 3-0 win over LASK. David Atanga and Emmanuel Agyeman came off the bench for Wolfsberger AC but could not rescue their side from a 2-1 home defeat to Rapid Vienna.

In Belgium, Lawrence Agyekum impressed with a full 90-minute outing for Cercle Brugge in their 3-0 win over Standard Liège. Jerome Opoku also lasted the entire match for Waregem though his side fell 2-0 to St. Truiden, while Jerry Afriyie was involved in half of the game for RAA La Louvière in a draw with Royale Union SG. Goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi featured for St. Gallen but could not prevent a 1-0 loss to Luzern.
Over in Israel, Eugene Ansah was on target for AS Ashdod in their 2-1 victory over Hapoel Jerusalem. In the United States, Hope Avayevu found the net for Phoenix Rising as they cruised to a comfortable 4-1 win over Colorado Springs.
The Turkish league also saw Ghanaian involvement as Alexander Djiku made a brief cameo for Fenerbahçe in their 3-1 win over Kocaelispor. Emmanuel Boateng featured for Gaziantep in their 2-1 win over Gençlerbirliği, Yaw Ackah was in action during Kayserispor’s heavy 4-0 defeat to Galatasaray, and Musah Mohammed played the first half for Bodrumspor in a 3-1 win over Sakaryaspor.
With the new season taking shape across the major leagues, Ghanaian players are already making headlines with vital contributions, further strengthening their claim for places in the national team as attention begins to shift towards upcoming international assignments.
