Jordan Ayew breaks John Paintsil’s Ghana record

The 32-year old attacker, has achieved a milestone after making appearance in Ghana’s International friendly against Liberia on Tuesday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Despite, not starting in the said mentioned game he had some minutes and went ahead to net Ghana’s third goal as they beat Liberia 3-1. He climbed off the bench to exhibit some wonderful performance after Ernest Nuamah and Kudus Mohammed had showed the way with the opener and second goals respectively.

Playing in the International friendly against Liberia makes Jordan Ayew the fourth most capped Ghanaian player with 92 national team appearance. Last week, he equalled former Ghana defender John Paintsil to make his 91st match appearance in Black Stars triumph over Central African Republic in the 2023 AFCON qualifier game.

The Crystal Palace forward has now surpassed John Paintsil’s 91 appearances which makes him the fourth player with the most appearances for the senior national team. He is only behind captain Andre Ayew, former captain Asamoah Gyan and Richard Kingson who won, 116, 109 and 93 caps respectively for the team.

He has also scored 20 goals for the national team making him Ghana’s seventh all-time highest scorer.

Ayew is hoping to make more appearances for the Black Stars in the forthcoming fixtures including the 2026 World Cup qualifiers which begins in November and the 2023 AFCON which comes off in Ivory Coast next year.
