Ibrahim Tanko Targets Premier League Title with Medeama SC in 2025/26 Season
Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has set his sights firmly on winning the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title, declaring his intent to build a formidable squad capable of challenging for the top prize in domestic football.
Tanko, who joined the Tarkwa-based club midway through the just-ended season from Accra Lions, guided the Yellow and Mauve to an 8th-place finish with 50 points.
Although he fell short of a top-four finish or silverware, the former Ghana international remains optimistic about the future.
“When I came in, the goal was to bring stability and success,” Tanko told Graphic Sports in a post-season interview. “We missed out on the top four, and that’s disappointing. But we’re not coming back next season to chase the top four — we’re coming for the title.”
Having inherited a squad in transition, Tanko’s focus was on steadying the ship. But with a full pre-season ahead and a clear vision in mind, the 47-year-old coach is now turning his attention to building a title-winning team.
“There won’t be massive changes, but we need to reassess,” he noted. “Players who are surplus to requirements will either be offloaded or sent out on loan, so we can make space for the right additions.”
Tanko highlighted specific areas in the team that require reinforcement, particularly the defensive line and the striking department.
“We have a good group of players, but we need to add more quality. A centre-back and a striker are definitely priorities,” he said. “The rest will come from the talented young players we already have at the club.”
“I’m here to build something strong and lasting,” he affirmed. “Next season is not just about improvement — it’s about going for the ultimate prize.”
With a clear plan and ambitions set, Ibrahim Tanko will now lead Medeama SC into what promises to be a highly competitive 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, with fans and stakeholders hopeful of a title-winning campaign.
