Former Africa Cup of Nations winner, Herve Renard, has hailed Andre Ayew’s decision to return to France to continue his playing career.

The Black Stars captain signed for Ligue 1 side Le Havre after being released by Nottingham Forest at the end of the 2022/23 season.

Renard, who worked with Ayew, during his time as the assistant coach of the Black Stars during the 20-8 AFCON, where the latter also made his debut, has described his return to Ligue 1 as ‘an intelligent choice.’

The French coach was speaking in Ligue 1’s documentary on African players in the league titled, “Follow your lucky star: Africa and Ligue 1 Uber Eats, the common goal.”

“He has just relaunched himself by coming to the French Ligue 1 for Le Havre,” he said.

“I think it’s a good choice. It’s an intelligent choice.”

Ayew played for Olympique Marseille between 2007 and 2015 before leaving for England where he signed for Swansea City.

The forward is currently in Ivory Coast where he will lead the Black Stars at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
