The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to introduce U15 Girls Colts Leagues across all ten football regions in a major move to strengthen grassroots participation in women’s football nationwide.

This initiative, developed with backing from FIFA’s Women’s Football Development programme, forms a core component of the GFA’s Women’s Football Strategy. The aim is to identify, develop, and nurture young female talents across Ghana through structured and consistent competition.

The newly formed leagues will offer regular playing time and a competitive environment for girls under the age of 15, giving them the platform to grow their skills in a professional and supportive setting. The project is spearheaded by the Women’s Football Development Desk under the GFA Technical Directorate, led by Professor Joseph Kwame Mintah.

FIFA’s support for the initiative comes on the heels of a successful application by the GFA and marks a significant milestone in the Association’s broader strategy to integrate women’s football into the mainstream of Ghana’s football development priorities.

These leagues are expected to lay a strong foundation for the future of the women’s game in Ghana by creating meaningful opportunities for participation, growth, and long-term development. The initiative is also seen as a powerful tool for empowering a new generation of female footballers and advancing gender inclusivity in sport.

The rollout of the U15 Girls Colts Leagues signals the GFA’s continued commitment to building a sustainable and inclusive football ecosystem from the grassroots level upward.
