The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Club Licensing Committee has ruled some stadiums unfit to host matches following its latest inspection, raising major safety and security concerns ahead of the Ghana Premier League’s resumption on March 7.

Among the rejected venues is the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, home of Asante Kotoko, which has been deemed unsafe due to the absence of a designated safe zone.

Club sources confirm that Kotoko must urgently address these issues or face the possibility of playing their home games away from Kumasi—a move that could affect their finances and logistics for the remainder of the season.

The University of Ghana Stadium, which has been a temporary home for Hearts of Oak, Legon Cities, and Accra Lions, was also rejected due to similar safety concerns, requiring urgent fixes before it can be reconsidered.

Other stadiums affected by the ruling include:

  • Golden City Park (Berekum Chelsea)
  • AAK Ampanian Stadium (Basake Holy Stars, Nzema)
  • Wenchi Sports Stadium (Young Apostles)

These clubs must now either secure alternative venues or implement the required safety improvements to meet GFA licensing standards before the league resumes.

The stricter stadium inspections follow the introduction of the Enhanced Matchday Safety and Security Protocols 2025, developed after extensive consultations with clubs, security agencies, and supporters’ groups.

With just days to go before the Ghana Premier League restarts, affected clubs are under pressure to meet compliance standards swiftly. The GFA has emphasized that it will not compromise on safety and has warned of strict sanctions for non-compliance.
