The Ghana Football Association has confirmed the appointment of Black Stars assistant coach Desmond Offei as the new head coach of the national U23 team, the Black Meteors.

Offei, who previously managed the Black Satellites, brings a wealth of experience into his new role as Ghana seeks to secure a long-awaited return to the Olympic Games.

During his time with the U20s, the Belgium-trained tactician guided Ghana to gold at the 2023 African Games and successfully steered the team back to the Africa Youth Championship for the first time in four years, with qualification for the Egypt edition earlier this year.

Supporting Offei in his new challenge will be former Black Stars striker Yaw Preko, who has worked within the national youth setup as coach of both the U15 and U17 sides.

The backroom staff also includes ex-Asante Kotoko and Medeama SC goalkeeper Muntari Tagoe as goalkeepers’ trainer, while Aduana FC’s Welfare Officer Atta Yeboah takes up the role of Team Manager. Henry Bart-Plange has been appointed Team Masseur, with Baba Aluta of Aduana FC serving as Equipment Officer. In addition, Eli Vorgbe joins the staff as Video Analyst, bringing advanced technical support to the squad.

On the medical front, Dr. Eric Tetteh has been confirmed as Team Doctor, working alongside physiotherapist Collins Annor to ensure player fitness.

The Black Meteors are determined to break a two-decade-long absence from the Olympic Games, having last featured at Athens 2004. Offei’s appointment marks the beginning of a crucial phase as Ghana targets qualification for Paris 2028.
