Asante Kotoko forward Kwame Poku is edging closer to full fitness after being sidelined for more than a month with injury.

The prolific attacker picked up the setback during the Porcupine Warriors’ opening-day clash of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season against Berekum Chelsea on September 13, which forced him off the pitch early in the game.

Since then, Poku has missed seven consecutive matches in all competitions, leaving a huge gap in Kotoko’s attacking setup.

However, the club provided a positive update on Tuesday, confirming that the striker has resumed light training with the youth team — a key step towards his full recovery and reintegration into the senior squad.

“Forward Kwame Opoku, who was stretchered off during the opening-day win over Berekum Chelsea, has resumed training with the youth side, while striker Isaac Mintah is still on the treatment table after undergoing successful surgery three weeks ago,” the club announced in an official statement.

The update will come as welcome news to head coach Abdul Karim Zito, whose side has struggled for consistency in attack since the season began.

Poku, known for his sharp movement and clinical finishing, is expected to bolster Kotoko’s frontline once he regains full match fitness.

Meanwhile, teammate Isaac Mintah remains sidelined following surgery but is expected to begin light training in the coming weeks.

Kotoko fans will be hopeful that Poku’s imminent return can help ignite the team’s title charge as they prepare for a crucial run of fixtures in the Ghana Premier League.
