Ghana’s Salisu Mohammed has agreed in principle to join French side AS Monaco this summer after seeing his club Southampton suffer relegation from the English Premier League.

The Saint were demoted to the EFL Championship following a poor show in the 2022-23 Premier league season, finishing bottom of the log. Southampton were joined by former English champions Leicester City FC and Leeds United FC.

According to a reliable source in Italy and Southampton club, the 24-year-old will exit the outfit in this summer transfer.

The reliable defender is close to joining AS Monaco as deal is far advanced. He’s in their list since June and agreement in principle with Southampton has been reached.

Deal expected to be completed next week. Fulham who showed keen interest in the Ghana international will not proceed in talks after they signed Bassey.

Salisu joined Southampton FC from Spanish club Real Vallacano in 2020 on a four-year contract. In the 2022-23 league season, he made 22 appearance for the Saints and provided one assist before getting sidelined with an injury.
