Bashir Hayford Warns Players After Heart of Lions’ Unbeaten Run Ends Against Bibiani GoldStars
Heart of Lions head coach Bashir Hayford has sent a stern message to his players following their 3–1 defeat to Bibiani GoldStars in the Ghana Premier League on Monday afternoon — a result that ended their impressive five-match unbeaten streak.
The “Dzie Woa Nu” boys entered the Week 6 encounter at the Dun’s Park full of confidence after a solid start to the campaign, but they were outclassed by a determined GoldStars side in front of their home supporters.
Despite beginning the game on the front foot and dominating early exchanges, Hayford’s men failed to capitalize on their chances — errors that proved costly as the hosts took full control of the match.
Reflecting on the defeat, Hayford admitted it was a tough but timely lesson for his players.
“It’s football — we’ve not been beaten for five matches, and today on somebody’s soil they have beaten us,” he said after the game.
“It’s going to be a wake-up call. Some of the players have become swollen-headed, so this will humble them. We’re going back to prepare well for the next game.”
Goals from Richard Kotey Amon, Sampson Eduku, and Samuel Atta Kumi sealed victory for Bibiani GoldStars, while Kwadwo Obeng Junior grabbed a late consolation for Heart of Lions.
The defeat sees Heart of Lions slip to fourth place on the league table with 11 points, while GoldStars rise to seventh with nine points and a game in hand.
Hayford will now be aiming for an immediate response when his side returns to action on Friday, as they host Basake Holy Stars at the Kpando Stadium.
