WPL: Ash-Town Ladies FC beat Northern Ladies to end winless run

Winger Ella Oheneba Afriyie’s lone goal was enough to end Ash-Town Ladies FC winless streak on Saturday afternoon at the Bantama Astro Turf over Northern Ladies FC.

The Originators had gone four matches without a win including Women’s FA Cup lost to Supreme Ladies FC. Last week, Ash-Town Ladies FC lost a 1-0 to debutants Candy Soccer Academy in Dormaa and had to back up to boost their confidence in avoiding relegation.

Ash-Town Ladies FC despite a brilliant first half, were held to a goalless draw before their fans.

Following a Pep talk from boss Aboagye Dacosta to the players during break, they continued their brilliant performance which they left off in the first department. 

Mounting severe pressure on Northern Ladies FC in the first 15 minutes of the second department could not get them a breakthrough after deadly striker Josephine Addowaa failed to connect with a header a splendid inside swing by Ella Oheneba Afriyie.

A minute to the 70th minute, the host registered the opener following a canter pressing upfront. The idea to press went well for Ash-Town Ladies FC as it fell for Josephine Addowaa who eventually set-up Ella Oheneba Afriyie and after dribbling past the visitors goalkeeper to slot in beautifully.

Ash-Town Ladies FC could have doubled their lead before the 80th minute but Blessing Asubia’s effort was blocked to deny them a second.

Northern Ladies FC offered Ash-Town Ladies FC a tough opposition especially in the die embers of the encounter yet could not snatch a point away.

Ash-Town Ladies shot-stopper Joyce Boateng once again mended the goalpost to register another cleansheet having being enigmatic from start of season.

The 2022-23 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League match week 13 ended 1-0 in favour of Ash-Town Ladies FC.
