“There is no issue between GFA and Afena-Gyan” – GFA General Secretary
Afena-Gyan currently is with Italian Serie A side Cremonese after switching camp from AS Roma before the start of 2022-23 league season
General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association, Lawyer Prosper Harrison Addo insist the association has no rift with 19-year-old Ghanaian forward Felix Afena-Gyan.
The young attacker after getting snubbed for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar have yet to receive a national team call-up. Afena-Gyan missed out on the final 26-man squad despite playing a key role in the qualifiers.
He showd up against Nigeria in the double-header playoff game and started both legs but was snubbed.
In March, 2023 it was revealed that Felix Afena-Gyan declined a call-up to the Black Meteors team for their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco. With many speculating that, there is a problem between the Ghana Football Association and the Cremonese attacker but Harrison Addo has debunk it despite his name not appearing in the 22-man squad for Black Meteors camping.
Prosper Harrison Addo says, the technical team could invite him to the senior national team anytime they will need his service.
“The FA as a body has no issue with Afena-Gyan. He is young and needs room for himself, sometimes constant criticisms reinforce his disappointments. So we have to give him room to come to terms and a good place.
“The GFA has not stated anywhere that the player will not receive a call-up and will disassociate itself from such reports,” he told Happy FM
“The FA will however leave that to the coach to decide if he needs Afena-Gyan and then the FA will make sure we do what is necessary to get the player. He is still a national asset and will be key for the team.”
