Ex-Arsenal midfielder, Paul Merson has regarded Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Teye Partey as the best holding midfielder in the English Premier League alongside Casemiro of Manchester United.

The 29-year-old Ghana international is in his third season with the Gunners and has already proven to be one of the best midfielders in the English topflight despite series of injuries. He joined the London side from Spanish giant’s Atletico Madrid.

He led the Gunners to stage a sensational comeback over AFC Bournemouth at the Emirate over the weekend, scoring his side’s first goal when Arsenal were down by two goals.

Partey inspired Arsenal to a 3-2 win over Bournemouth.

Merson believes that Partey’s fitness is crucial to Arsenal’s title hopes, stating, “I think they have someone in Jorginho to come on and step in.

“I would say Thomas Partey needs to be there. I wouldn’t say Jorginho to play ten on the trot. But to come in and do a good job.”

Merson also highlighted Partey’s qualities, describing him as “a very special player.”

“I think he is the best holding midfield player around, at the moment. Him and Casemiro, if I am being honest.”

Partey has featured in 21 league games for Arsenal this season, starting 19 of them and scoring three goals.
