MTN FA Cup: Sam Adams strike sends Aduana Stars to quarterfinals

Aduana Stars FC on Sunday humbled giant’s Asante Kotoko SC at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park to seal qualification to quarter-finals of 2023 MTN FA Cup.

The home side having curtailed the visitors from netting the opener, in the first 20 minutes had the way to shift to their preferred strategy by dominating play and detecting pace of the quarterfinal clash.

Aduana Stars created numerous chances and could have taken the lead before break but lost confidence and composure at goal with two brilliant headers which was well dealt by Goalkeeper Frederick Asare.

However, continued to push along with dangerous attacks in the second half.

Coach Paa Kwesi Fabian realising how frequent Asante Kotoko SC right-back Augustine Agyapong sorted to operate on his side’s left attacking space.

With just a minute to the hour mark, the Fire Boys found themselves in the opponent box but saw center-back Mohammed Alhassan commit foul on Sam Adams.

The attacking midfielder discharged from 12-yards to give the host lead.

There was 20 minutes for the Porcupine Warriors to respond but failed having lacked the creating edge to worry Goalkeeper Joseph Addo.

Sam Adams strike proved to be the only goal of the encounter, which propelled Aduana Stars FC to the last 16 of the MTN FA Cup.

Asante Kotoko SC last season exited the competition following a defeat to King Faisal FC at the round of 32 and now round 16.
