MATCH REPORT: Black Queens strike down Senegal in international friendly

Three first goals stun Senegal at Accra Sports Stadium

The Black Queens of Ghana, made their intentions known right after the whistle paved way for commencement of game at the Accra Sports Stadium, as they made their prowess count inside the first 10 minutes.

Coach Nora Häuptle side broke the deadlock in the second minute, to send a strong warning to Senegal that they are playing at Black Queens favourite grounds. Gifty Assifuah got unto a rebound from Evelyn Badu to get Ghana the lead.

Before playmaker Grace Asantewaa doubled Ghana’s lead 6 minutes later.

Grace with a solo run at goal got her angle right to put the Black Queens on with a deserving lead.

The Black Queens after netting twice, continued to dominate play since they were on the comfort seat. Senegal though made few incursions at goal but Goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan was always up to the task to keep a cleansheet in the first department as Gifty Assifuah came along with a brace in 45+1’ minute.

It was a third for the Queens with break ending 3:0 in favour of Ghana.

Coach Nora effected some changes into her team after recess but could not increase their goal tally. Fidous Yakubu, Suzzy Dede Teye, Linda Eshun, Anathesia Achiaa and Princess Owusu saw some minutes of action from bench. 

They guided Black Queens to an emphatic 3-0 win after taking feet off the paddle in the second half.

First half goals, were enough to stun Senegal in the first leg of the international friendly.

The two matches is expected to offer Coach Nora Hauptle an opportunity to assess the strength of the team and strategize for the future.

It also forms part of the process to build a strong team for competitions such as, the WAFU Cup of Nations and the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations qualifiers.
