Asante Kotoko hand FC Samartex second home defeat
FC Samartex 1996 suffered their second home defeat following 2-1 lost to Asante Kotoko SC at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Manager Annor Walker and his charges had a poor start to the game, and could not rally from behind to impress, as they recorded yet another home defeat in the 2022-23 BetPawa Premier League. Bibiani GoldStars SC was first to beat them at their home grounds 3-0 with Kotoko adding up the heat.
It was not a perfect start for Kotoko but sailed through with victory after Enock Morrison opened the scoring account.
Enock Morrison from a low cross inside the box of Samartex, strike to the far corner of Goalkeeper Lawrence Ansah to break the deadlock in the 18th minute. Before the goal, Asante Kotoko SC had made two attempts upfront with both flagged offside due to George Mfegue poor positioning.
Samartex who were riding on a brilliant home records and team with the lowest number of goals conceded (14) this season, were left thrilling before the 20th minute mark.
Few incursions were made by the host with Osei Wusu tormenting the right-back of the visitors with beautiful play. Emmanuel Keyekeh had an opportunity from a free-kick and could have made it count but fired wide before kotoko made it 2-0.
Rocky Dwamena doubled the Porcupine Warriors lead before half the hour mark, with a left-foot shoot. Once again, from Richmond Lamptey’s brilliant run from the left flank to cross in to locate George Mfegue but found youngster Rocky Dwamena.
It was Dwamena’s debut and a goal as well for him before break.
Samartex managed to pull one back, late inside the goal through Ebenezer Acquah. His strike in the 89th minute was not enough to secure a point at home.
At full time, the Reds picked all maximum points with a 2-1 victory.
With the win, Asante Kotoko SC accumulated points increase to 34 whiles Samartex FC are still with 30 points.
