Asante Kotoko’s interim head coach Karim Zito, alongside his assistant Prince Yaw Owusu, has been handed the mandate to guide the club to both the Ghana Premier League title and the MTN FA Cup crown.

The duo was appointed to steer the affairs of the Porcupine Warriors following the dismissal of head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum. Ogum’s exit came on the back of a disappointing run of form that saw the club go four games without a win, slipping to fourth place on the league table with 47 points from 28 matches.

Despite the dip in form, Kotoko remains in contention for silverware, having advanced to the semi-finals of the MTN FA Cup where they are set to face Berekum Chelsea.

Speaking on the club’s new direction, Communications Director Sarfo Duku expressed confidence in the abilities of the new technical heads to revive the club’s fortunes.

“Coach Karim Zito is not new in the system,” Duku said. “He has been around, following the local league. He knows the players very well.”

He continued, “He will have to put on course the mission that we set for ourselves, that is, winning the double. We think that with the experience and pedigree of coach Karim Zito and Owusu, they should be able to keep that dream alive.”

Zito, a seasoned tactician with vast experience in Ghanaian football, has previously led youth national teams to success and is seen as a stabilizing figure who can restore Kotoko’s competitive edge.

His immediate test will come on Sunday when the Porcupines host Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in a Matchday 29 fixture that could prove vital to their title hopes.
