Ghanaian winger Gilbert Koomson joins Norwegian side Sandefjord
Norwegian side Sandefjorf FC have announced the signing of Ghanaian winger Gilbert Koomson.
Koomson following a successful agreement signed a two-year deal with the club on Thursday.
He joins the club from fellow Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt.
A statement on the club’s official website read,
Sandefjord Fotball can confirm that the fast winger Gilbert Koomson has signed a contract with us until 2024. Koomson comes from Bodø/Glimt – where he had an agreement until the 2023 season. The Ghanaian’s first contact with Norway was when he was on loan in Sogndal in 2013 as an 18-year-old.
He only played seven games at the time – BUT he had to convince the club management in Saftbygda. Because in 2016 there was a transfer on a permanent basis – and he played a total of 56 official matches for them and scored 10 times. That was enough for Brann to bond with him. There were 72 games – and 11 goals. He was a big crowd hero at Brann Stadion – and occasionally played sparkling football out on his right wing.
The Turkish Super Lig club Kasimpasa had also observed Gilbert Koomson – and brought him over to Istanbul and the Turkish elite series. There were 22 matches – before he again headed north. This time it went extra far north. Bodø/Glimt’s coach Kjetil Knutsen had seen him in Bergen – and they signed a contract with Koomson for the 23 season. Now the 28-year-old’s journey from childhood club Tero Sasana in Accra has for the time being stopped here in Sandefjord. General manager Espen Bugge Pettersen says that SF is very satisfied with the agreement that was signed today – and that the club can once again have a productive edge that can contribute to the Eliteserien in the next two years.
Head coach Hans Erik Ødegaard also spoke warmly of Gilbert’s skills when the medical test was completed and the contract signed. We know that Gilbert and his agent Mikail Adampour v/Tempo Sports Group turned down more profitable offers – both from Norwegian and foreign clubs. We in SF are happy about that.”
