Ghana U15 Girls Qualify For WAFU B Final After Sweeping Aside Côte d’Ivoire
Ghana’s U15 Girls have booked their place in the grand finale of the WAFU B Zonal Qualifiers of the CAF African Schools Championship after overpowering Côte d’Ivoire 3–0 in Wednesday’s semifinal showdown in Ouagadougou.
The defending champions from last year’s maiden edition in Niger, have been nothing short of exceptional throughout the tournament. With 15 goals scored and none conceded across three matches, they have showcased a blend of discipline, tactical intelligence, and fearless attacking play that has thrilled supporters in Burkina Faso.
After a cagey first half in the semifinal, Ghana finally found the breakthrough shortly after the interval when tournament top scorer Margaret Akosua Tawiah calmly slotted home from the penalty spot. The opener ignited the team’s confidence, paving the way for further dominance.
Not long after, Belinda Kpentey unleashed a superb strike to double Ghana’s lead, before Mavis Koah sealed the victory with a well-taken third goal, putting the result beyond doubt at the 4 August Stadium.
Under the guidance of head coach Sandra Boakye, the team has grown stronger with every game, beginning their campaign with a resounding 5–0 win over Benin and following it up with a commanding 7–0 triumph against Niger. Their performances—characterised by fluid passing, electrifying pace, and ruthless finishing—have made them the standout side of the competition.
Ghana will now face hosts Burkina Faso in Thursday’s highly anticipated final. Although the young Black Queens head into the encounter as favourites, the vocal home crowd and the determination of the Burkinabé team promise a fiercely contested battle.
With a continental ticket on the line, Ghana will be eager to defend the title they captured in Niger last year and reaffirm their status as a powerhouse in youth women’s football.
