Ghana forward Iñaki Williams starts training with Athletico Bilbao after World Cup exit

The 29-year-old Spanish-based Ghana forward Iñaki Williams has returned to his club Athletico Bilbao after 2022 FIFA World Cup exit.

Iñaki Williams born in Spain to Ghanaian parents, has rejoined his teammates in Spain to sharpen up his skills ahead of La Liga restart. Due to the FIFA World Cup, all top five European competitions went on break and will resume immediately the tournament ends.

The 22nd FIFA World Cup will elapse in Qatar on Sunday, December 18 2022.

Iñaki who made it to Qatar with Ghana, started in all three games the Black Stars honoured. However, could not see Ghana progress to the knockout stage.

He was phenomenal during preparation towards the tournament and shined in Qatar though could not get onto the scoresheet.

Following Ghana’s exit from the tournament at the Group phase after losing 3-2 to Portugal, bouncing back to humble South Korea 3-2 and falling shock to Uruguay 2-0 went home early.

It was his maiden FIFA World Cup edition after switching nationality to play for the West African Country.

On Tuesday, he begun training with Athletico Bilbao and is expected to continue his blistering performance for the La Liga side when the Santander returns.

Iñaki Williams could play a key role in Ghana’s qualification to the 2023 African Cup of Nations tournament slated for Ivory Coast.
