Former Asante Kotoko coach Frimpong Manso confirms Kenpong Football Academy departure
President and bankroller of Ghanaian lower-tier side Kenpong Football Academy, Kennedy Somua Agyapong has relieved of the duties of the club’s technical team after first round of 2022-23 Access Division One League.
It’s unclear, reason for the outfit to see it technical team and medical staffs dissolved but thus action by the business mogul is not the first.
In the team’s quest to Division One, a technical team which was assembled by experienced Ghanaian duo Kwasi Appiah and Dr. Francis Oti-Akenteng suffered same action without a just course. The team included Stephen Frimpong Manso, who previously managed Asante Kotoko SC, Nkoranza Warriors SC and Asokwa Deportivo.
However, the former Black Stars player made a return to the side as head coach to lead them in the Division One League with Sammy Adjei, Edward Ansah, Emmanuel Ampiah, and Emmanuel Armah Senegal also joining the club until recently.
A meeting was held days ago, as Kennedy Agyapong informed the technical team of the club his decision to dissolve it.
Former Berekum Chelsea FC trainer, Moses Coffie now takes over as head coach of Kenpong Football Academy.
Frimpong Manso confirmed his departure in an interview with Ghanasportspage.com , revealing that the dissolving of the technical team is no news to him.
“I have done the best that I can to help the team grow and gain the needed foundation in football. I feel proud to lead the team in the Division One League for the first time” he said.
“The team doesn’t have home grounds and to have a team of young players without experience playing at the highest level with such results, I think the technical team did a yeoman’s job.
“Our performance would have been different if we had a home grounds like others” he continued. Since its formation, the club has used various venues at Winneba Sports College Park, Ajumako Essesan Park, WAFA Academy Park at Gomoa Fetteh, and Swedru Stadium as venues at various times, with the inconsistency and traveling around affecting the players in matches sometimes”, he explained
” The decision to dissolve the technical team is pathetic and anyone with football knowledge wouldn’t take such a decision. We have been able to stabilize the team and therefore we should be appreciated for that”.
“We won three away matches, it’s hard to win in some centers but we won against Abusua Dwarfs, Elmina Sharks and Asokwa Deportivo in Kumasi. So if we have been able to do all these for the progress of the club and instead of appreciating us but if you (Kennedy Agyapong) think it’s non-performance then it’s up to you. Your conscience will judge you”, he said.
Kenpong Football Academy sit mid-table of Division One League Zone Two.
The club is a subsidiary of the Kenpong Group of Companies comprising Kenpong Travel and Tours, Ice Gold natural mineral water, Kenpong Construction (roads, buildings), and many other companies.
