According to multiple sources in Sweden, Asante Kotoko player, Joseph Amoako has been sentenced to prison for rape.

The attacker who was loaned to Helsingborg from Ghanaian giant’s Asante Kotoko SC has been sentenced to prison on count of rape.

In October, it was revealed that the player in Allsvenskan Helsingborgs IF was suspected of rape.

The club, which then played in the Allsvenskan, then chose to suspend the player.

On November 7, the player was requested to be detained, on probable grounds suspected of rape, and has been in custody until the trial.

In connection with the detention, Helsingborgs IF also chose to break the contract with the player. The club subsequently did not want to comment on the case further.

At the end of November, charges were brought against the player. He was charged with raping a sleeping person in May earlier this year.

On Thursday, the verdict was handed down in the Helsingborg district court.

The former HIF player is now sentenced to two years in prison despite his denial.
The player is also ordered to pay damages to the plaintiff.
