Emmanuel Essiam Joins FC Winterthur on Long-Term Loan Deal
Swiss Super League side FC Winterthur have secured the services of Ghanaian midfielder Emmanuel Essiam on a loan deal from FC Basel that runs until the summer of 2027, reinforcing their midfield options for the coming seasons.
The 22-year-old Ghana U-23 international arrives as part of Winterthur’s plan to add energy and depth to the centre of the park, with the club viewing him as a long-term asset capable of influencing games at both ends of the pitch.
Essiam is no stranger to Swiss football, having joined Basel from the Ghana Premier League in early 2022. Since then, he has accumulated more than 40 appearances across the Super League, Challenge League and Swiss Cup, representing Basel as well as Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy and FC Aarau during various loan spells.
In recent months, injuries slowed his progress, prompting a temporary move to Belgian second-tier outfit Royal Francs Borains in a bid to regain rhythm and match sharpness. He later returned to Basel following changes within the club’s sporting structure, with his contract running until 2028.

The former U-20 Africa Cup of Nations winner now embarks on a new chapter with Winterthur, where he is expected to bring mobility, ball-winning ability and composure to the midfield once he settles into his new environment.
Winterthur believe Essiam’s experience, despite his young age, will help stabilise their squad as they look to build a competitive core for the future.
